The season 4 finale of “Peaky Blinders” shocked fans with the possibility of the death of one key character, part-time gang leader Arthur Shelby. On the way, Tommy Shelby stood up to Sicilian mafia member Luca Changretta. The future of the Shelby family company was in jeopardy, and even Tommy himself was in danger at every turn. Lizzy bore him an heiress, and this newly-made father exchanged an underground business for a political career.
The end of season 4 was unexpected and very intriguing, leaving the audience to guess where the story would go next. What kind of ailment struck Tommy Shelby? Is he mentally ill, or is it just the effects of stress? Can he now control himself and cope with everything that has befallen him? Or will his health problems lead to a disturbing end? And finally, the most important questions that torment the viewer: what will happen to Jesse Eden, and what will the revolution lead to? Or maybe it is Tommy who will lead her?
The continuation of the series through season 5 was approved even before the release of season 4, but the details were not disclosed. Now the creators have warned their fans that they will have to wait a while for new adventures of Tommy Shelby. According to the scriptwriter Stephen Knight, the development the series will begin soon, and the team will be able to start shooting the 5th season next fall. Thus, season 5 of “Peaky Blinders” will be released no earlier than spring 2019.

Filming of season 5 of "Peaky Blinders" began in September in Manchester. The creators of the series shared the plot details and a first look at the sequel.
In the new season, the world has been plunged into chaos due to the financial collapse of 1929. Opportunities and failures are everywhere. When a charismatic politician with a bold vision of Great Britain addresses Tommy, now a member of Parliament, he realizes that his answer will affect not only the future of his family, but the whole country. The history of the Shelby family will be woven into the political fabric of Great Britain and Europe in the late 1920s - early 30s. Tommy Shelby will face the darkest forces, and his fight will be as relevant to the viewer today as it was in those days.
Screenwriter and showrunner Steven Knight said season 5 wouldn’t be the last: “There’s talk on the BBC about shooting more seasons.” The director of the 5th season of “Peaky Blinders” was Anthony Byrne (“The Last Kingdom”)
