In season 12 of Doctor Who, the Cybermen return and become the prototype for Frankenstein

Known villains of "Doctor Who", Cybermen will appear for the first time in 2 years in the 12th season of the series and inspire writer Mary Shelley to create "Frankenstein”

The Cybermen were last seen in 2017 with the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi), and since then there has been no news of one of the central villains of the cult series. Now their return is announced, and the Thirteenth Doctor is to fight them for her first time!

The story with Cybermen will reportedly be an example of a typical horror episode for the Doctor. The grim events involving the Cybermen will take place in the 19th century.

It is noteworthy that the series will continue to illuminate iconic figures in history, which is possible thanks to time travel. The Doctor constantly meets with writers, politicians, artists and other celebrities of various eras, ranging from Cleopatra, Shakespeare, Jane Austen, to Churchill and Agatha Christie.

In season 12, we will meet Mary Shelley, who the Cybermen will inspire to write the novel "Frankenstein, or Modern Prometheus." It is interesting to note that the personality of the writer  has attracted the attention of Hollywood in recent years with such films as Monster Mary Shelly (where the main role was played by Game of Thrones star, Sophie Turner) and Beauty and the Beast. It is believed that in reality, Lord Byron himself, as well as her husband, poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, and other prominent creators of that time, pushed her to create her own book. Frankenstein itself has long become a common nickname for any monster.

Mary Shelley was already a companion of the Eighth Doctor in audio plays. I wonder if the two will be familiar at the time of the episode, or if the audio plays will not be taken into account in the series.

Last season was the first for Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor. Showrunner Chris Chibnell in principle did not introduce old villains. Only in the New Year special were viewers able to see Daleks, other sworn enemies of the Doctor. It looks like season 12 will be richer in terms of classic antagonists, since we already know about Cybermen. Who else have writers prepared for the coming battles? And exactly what new adversary will the Thirteenth Doctor face? Environmental pollution?
